First Steps

Arranging an initial call

The first step is for us to schedule a 15-minute call so you can tell me about what’s brought you into contact with me and I can explain a little bit about how I can support you. This call is free and there’s no obligation to take things further if you don’t feel ready, but if you’d like to move forward, we can agree a day and time for your initial session. Please use the contact form to let me know some times that work for you to speak by phone.

What to expect from your first session

Our initial meeting, like any sessions that follow, will last 50 minutes. It will be a chance for you to talk some more about what’s going on for you right now and I’ll have some questions for you to help me understand your situation better. This first meeting is an opportunity for you to get a sense of me as a therapist and also to bring any questions you have about how I work. If you decide to proceed with some further sessions, we can also use this time to agree the focus and form of the therapy and discuss any goals or expectations you may have.

My fees

My standard fee per session is £85.

I also offer a limited number of daytime appointments at a reduced rate to those who are studying or who face financial barriers to accessing therapy. Please ask me for more information about these appointments if they are relevant to your circumstances.

How often? How long?

From my experience, effective and meaningful therapy needs a balance of commitment and momentum. For this reason, I ask that sessions are attended weekly and on the same day and time.

I offer both long-term and short-term therapy. When we meet, we can contract together around your needs and circumstances and decide how we move forward, whether open-ended with the opportunity to review or for a fixed term.

In person or online?

I have extensive experience of offering sessions online for both short-term and long-term therapeutic work. You are welcome to meet with me in my Victoria practice or to attend therapy remotely if this works better for you. My preferred platform for online therapy is Zoom.

Is therapy for you?

Yes. I believe that everyone can benefit from psychotherapy.

Research shows that positive therapeutic outcomes are founded on two main factors: your readiness to engage with the process, and the quality of the therapeutic relationship that we build together.

It’s natural to have mixed feelings. Part of you may want to try therapy; another part may be holding you back. My approach involves opening a dialogue with both these parts, building your motivation for change and growth, and understanding the often very good reasons for ambivalence and doubt.

There are many therapists and types of therapy out there and you may be wondering whether my approach is the right fit for you. The only sure way of finding this out is to take a leap and make contact. I pride myself as an ethical practitioner. If I don’t think my way of working can meet your needs, I will be honest with you about it, and where possible, will point you to some alternative sources of support.
